About FOOF
what's foof?
foof is a FireFox browser add-on that eliminates all ads and lets you replace up to two of the ads with content that is related to the page you're viewing. foof is a derivative of Wladimir Palant’s Firefox ad blocker, Adblock Plus. See the Adblock Plus history for more information.
All you need to do is install the foof add-on and select your ad replacement options. The options include displaying:
- YouTube videos
- News - from the major news sources
- Blog Posts - from top 100 blogs
- Wikipedia articles
- Images - from various Web sources
- My-Pictures - from your Flickr Account
- No content – just eliminate the ads as in Adblock Plus
Except for my-photos, the content is selected to match the Web page's topic. foof uses TextWise's semantic engine to do this matching. See the FAQ for more information.
On a typical page, foof will eliminate all the ads, and replace up to two of the ads with content that is semantically matched to the Web page that you are viewing. On some pages, foof may choose to not display any content due to either the lack of material that is relevant to the page or issues with the design of the page. In every case, foof will eliminate all the ads it can discover.
Example

In this example, when the user goes to a Web page, foof:
- Removes all four ads
- Replaces the banner ad with news that is relevant to the Web page
- Replaces another ad with a YouTube Video that is relevant to the Web page
